Club News & Announcements
Our most recent meeting was held on September 18 at Stoneforge and was led by President Jenn. We welcomed one guest, Lara Stone, Co-Executive Director of the Children’s Advocacy Center of Bristol County. During the meeting, Jenn was pleased to present Lara with the Club’s donation from the last Rotary year in support of the Center’s important work in our community.
Candy Donations Needed for the THS Interact Club: The THS Interact Club will once again be participating in the City of Taunton’s Trunk or Treat on October 24! Rotarians are invited to bring candy donations to our weekly meetings through October 15. Let’s help the Interact Club stock up for another great community event!
Our next board meeting is on October 13th on Zoom. All members are invited.
And, it was Ed's birthday! We hope all your birthday wishes come true!
At Our Most Recent Meeting...
...we welcomed Jasselle Garcia and Clare McLeod of the Justice Center of Southeast Massachusetts, who joined us to talk about the work of the Center and, in particular, its Education Unit.
The Justice Center provides free legal assistance to eligible residents in southeastern Massachusetts, with eligibility based on income and geographic location. Jasselle and Clare work in the Education Unit, where they assist students and families facing issues such as school discipline, homelessness, and English-language learning, and advocate for additional educational supports when needed.
They also gave us a sense of the demand for these services, noting that attorneys in the Education Unit may handle 50–60 cases each year.
Thank you to Jasselle and Clare for joining us and for sharing more about this valuable resource available to families in our region!
Happy & Sad Bucks
Jenn was happy to share some recent Rotary District activities. Last Thursday was a meeting with the District Governor, followed by a district meeting at BCC in Fall River on Saturday. Both offered great opportunities for conversations about leadership, attracting new members, and connecting with Rotarians from other clubs. She also offered a happy birthday buck for Ed!
Zulmira shared an info buck for an upcoming AHS wine tasting on November 5. She was also happy to have attended the district meeting and Saturday’s assembly, which featured great speakers and sessions.
Carol Sullivan gave a promo buck for the upcoming AHS wine tasting and a happy buck in honor of her granddaughter Amanda’s 22nd birthday!
Dave C. shared a sad buck for the loss of his dear friend and fellow hockey dad, Peter Farley. Pete was an active and engaged parent and team organizer, as well as an advocate for No One Left Behind. An Iraq War veteran, Dave shared that Pete had helped bring his interpreter to the United States and, just this past summer, traveled with him to a World Cup Iraq match. Our thoughts are with Peter’s family, including his two sons, and all those who knew him.
Will wished Ed a happy birthday and was glad to welcome Lara and thank her for the work she does in our community. He also shared a sad buck that his mom is in the hospital after a fall. She is doing better, and Will asked that everyone keep her in their prayers.
